Prior to the annual NWCA Convention in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Executive Director Mike Moyer talked about the NWCA College Coaches Academy. The Academy started in 2010 and was a way to help educate up-and-coming coaches on traits that will help them land coaching positions and help preserve and entrench their programs.

Now in the fourth year, over 300 coaches have come through the program and many of the newly-hired head coaches in all levels of wrestling have gone through the academy.

Olympic cyclist Scott Mercier was one of the keynote speakers for the Coaches Academy. Mercier was a professional cyclist for the U.S. Postal Service and made the decision not to dope when it came to his career. His winnings fell and his performance compared to athletes who were doping wasn't good enough. He walked away from his cycling career after making the decision not to use performing enhancement drugs. He discusses making the right decision.
